After all the hard work (and fun!), the new album, esirnuS nI esreveR is finally done and ready for release!
There are a couple of songs on here (10 in total) that I wrote all the way back when I was recording A Different River and one or two that were written as I was doing this album too. Recorded in my home studio that I have dubbed The Woodshed and also in the homes of the people who contributed (who I will get to shortly) and at Musicworks in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, this has turned into a truly global effort! My good friend, Kevin Whyte heads up Musicworks and he mixed One More Line and The Man From Tomorrow, provided drums for those two tracks, and mastered all the music too. In addition to that, he introduced me to Allan J. Walsh who played a wonderful clarinet part for the One More Line which happens to be the first song. Kevin went above and beyond the call.
Ayumi Sato is a friend who I have played with in Tokyo on occasion and who also plays bass in a band here in Tokyo fronted by two English gentlemen, Duncan and Selwyn Walsh (no relation to Allan that I know of) called The Watanabes. Ayumi plays bass on three tracks here, One More Line, Fair Maiden of the Sparkling Waters, and The Man From Tomorrow. I'd dare say, he's one of the best bass players in Tokyo!
Erin Sharpe, played trumpet in a band that was always a distinct treat to hear called Dead Sea Dropouts. They played klezmer music which is a traditional style of music from eastern Europe that is full of life and DSD always brought their A game! I was also bandmates with Erin in the Tokyo indie scene country/folk rockers, Jimmy Binks and The Shakehorns. I loved that band: always lots of fun and great folks to be around! Erin plays trumpet on The Man From Tomorrow.
The last person to contribute to the album, and certainly not the least, that I want to mention is Morgan Fisher. Morgan is a wonderful person, a great mentor to me, someone with a storied past, and I am proud to have him add keyboards to the newest number on the album, This Is The Place. Morgan was part of Mott The Hoople, fronted his own group back in the '60s called Love Affair, played with the likes of Queen, British Lions, and Yoko Ono among others, and still plays regularly through live stream from his home studio here in Tokyo.
esirnuS nI esreveR is available for download from Bandcamp here https://jonnybarefoot.bandcamp.com/album/esirnus-ni-esrever I would love to know what you think of it, what your favourite songs are, or anything else you'd like to share! I'd also love to say that I will be playing lots of shows all over the place in support of this new batch of tunes but all that will have to wait. Please watch this space for news about live streams and upcoming music releases. Take care, everyone and be safe! Peace!
